holiday cranberry sauce with maple + orange

Thanksgiving is only a few days away, but this last minute recipe is easy enough to add to the menu without adding extra stress or burden. I promise that this fresh, sweet, and tart sauce is worth venturing into the hectic grocery stores to grab a bag of cranberries.

Simmered in sweet maple syrup (note: not pancake syrup!) with tangy orange juice and warming cinnamon, this condiment will add a welcome pop of color and flavor to your holiday table.

Cranberry Sauce with Maple + Orange

Ingredients:

1- 12 oz package of cranberries
3/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
1 cinnamon stick
zest from 1 orange

Procedure:

Rinse cranberries and place in a medium saucepan. Add maple syrup, orange juice, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and stir occasionally. Let simmer for 10 minutes, until berries burst and sauce thickens and gels. Remove from heat and stir in orange zest.

Once cooled, store in refrigerator. Remove cinnamon stick before serving.

Yield: 1 1/2 cups
