savor summer – with a sweet watermelon agua fresca
Don’t sweat the summer heat; whip up a refreshing watermelon drink and keep your cool on even the hottest days. This refreshing, tart, and sweet recipe was a hit at my ‘Become a Smoothie Master’ class – and I’m sure it will be in your house, too.
Watermelon is a summer staple, and rightfully so. This fruit is 91% water, relatively low calorie, and a rich source of lycopene – an antioxidant powerhouse. Watermelon serves as the base and liquid in this smoothie, with frozen strawberries adding sweetness and an icy texture. Basil is a natural compliment – and while optional – it adds a little depth and complexity. Hemp seeds not only add protein and fiber (making this a balanced snack), but also a creamy texture. A pinch of sea salt, as a final touch, pulls all the flavors together.
